Last week I threw up a Friday Five on the blog and mentioned that I got a new rug for my living room.
I feel like such an “adult” that I get excited over new rugs, kitchen appliances, and cool organizational bins for my junk drawer.
This rug was a highlight of the week last week! We have lived in our house for almost 7 years and have had the same rug. I liked the rug, there wasn’t anything necessarily wrong with it. It was just an 8×10.
We have wood floors, and my living room is larger than the rug so my furniture would slide around ALL DAY EVERY DAY. I was moving furniture back in place ALL THE TIME. I would get so ANGRY! UGGH!
I bought all the fancy “furniture pads” to put on the bottom of all my furniture and they would work for about a day, and then get dusty (I guess) and my furniture would start sliding around again.
You guys, it was serious business. I would get SO FRUSTRATED. Who wants to spend their time scooting their furniture back in place every time they walk down the hall???
I would ask my friends what they did, and the furniture pads were always suggested, but just didn’t seem to work correctly for me.
I knew that I wanted a bigger rug so that my furniture could sit completely on it.
So, I started searching. When you move up from an 8×10 rug to a 12×12 in stores, the price GETS SUPER HIGH. The large rugs with designs on them are priced ridiculously high. I would feel silly spending that much on a rug. The low end of a design 12×12 good quality rug was over $1,000. You can get a nice 8×10 rug for under $500, but when you bump sizes up the prize doubles or triples!
I still have a baby at home, who still sometimes might spit up and who sometimes lets his bottle drip on the rug. I am not going to spend that much on a rug while having young kids still at home. Actually, I probably wouldn’t spend that much on one even when they are older.
I looked for a larger rug for over 2 years and would continually get bummed at the high price.
Then, someone suggested I go get a nice quality piece of carpet bound to the size I wanted.
Ch-Ching! It worked!
We headed to our friend’s carpet store and they helped me get a nice piece of carpet cut to the size I wanted.
I have not moved one piece of furniture since we put it down. Even when the kids are having their “wrestling matches” and using the couch as a landing point. (That’s my sugar coated way of saying they sprint into the living room and jump and land on the couch like Captain America jumping out of a building.) Before– my couch would move about 3 feet. Now it stays.
My furniture now stays in place. It is AMAZING and I am super pumped!
Sheesh- I feel like such a dork that I am so excited about stationary furniture.
The carpet piece was cut to a 12×12 and fits the living room perfectly. And as far as the price– very affordable! A carpet bound is much cheaper than even an 8×10 rug! SUCCESS!!!!
It is softer and better quality than the 8×10 rug I had. It makes the living room so much more cozy and I love it!
I wish that it didn’t take me so long to upgrade sizes!
So- thanks for sticking to the end of this post and reading about my ramblings about my carpet.
What is a small thing you get excited about at your house?
