The Christmas season is pretty much here! Usually, I am a HUGE STICKLER for waiting until after Thanksgiving to do anything Christmas to my home.
Thanksgiving is one of my FAVORITE holidays and I hate that it is always so easily skipped over in the main stream.
But this year, I am breaking my own rule and staring with Christmas things before Thanksgiving even gets here.
I’m excited about it and am ready to decorate my house for Christmas, start wrapping gifts, and let the season begin. (It is a little tacky, but I have Thanksgiving and Christmas decor mixed currently on my porch. But I don’t care. It’s only for a couple more weeks!) I love teaching the kids everything about Thanksgiving and doing all kinds of “Thankful” activities, and hanging all my “GIVE THANKS” signs up, but I also don’t want to be overextended in December, so I’m rolling with it in my own way.
I have a few reasons for starting Christmas before Thanksgiving this year. BUT REASON NUMBER ONE IS——— I WANT TO ENJOY THE SEASON!!!!!!
Life is busy. December is crazy. Holidays are hectic. So this year, I want to savor the season by having a lot done before Thanksgiving even gets here. All I want to do the whole month of December is make Christmas Candy and Christmas Cookies, watch Christmas movies, make Christmas ornaments, snuggle and read Christmas books, play games, do advent activities, and spend quality time with my kids. The only way I’ll be able to slow down and enjoy the few days before December 25th is if a lot of my gift buying is finished and planning is done. So my goal this year is to have the MAJORITY of everything bought and wrapped BEFORE December 1st, so that the rest of the month will be reserved for a slower pace. I’ll let you know how it goes. So YES- I am staring with the decorating, planning, and organizing before Thanksgiving even gets here.
I’ve had my Christmas notebook out the past month jotting down notes, making organizational lists, and writing down my ideas.
One of my goals is to make a video of my notebook with some FREE PDF printable files for you to make your own if you want. I have been using it for about 5 years and I LOVE IT and it is SUPER HELPFUL to me!
This year we are sticking with the same gift format with our kids of only giving them three gifts each. We started that a few years ago and it has been one of the best Christmas decisions that we made.
I do have a whole post almost ready for you about how we handle that and choose what to do AND how we handle our gift giving to others outside of our immediate family.
I’ve been talking to all my IRL (in real life/ face to face) mom friends and swapping our ideas and how we do “Christmas” with traditions, time management, and all the fun stuff that comes with it and we all seem to have the same desire, goals, and plans for the season. LESS Stress. LESS To do’s . LESS STUFF. (Kind of like last year when I wrote what I didn’t do)
But MORE of Christ. MORE quality time. MORE friends. And of Course— MORE YUMMY COOKING!!!!
And Merry EARLY Christmas Season and Happy Thanksgiving!
Speaking of Yummy Cooking- The season has started in our house for Caramels and everyone is happy.
And just a note—– All these pictures are from last year. I don’t have my tree up yet– BUT AM REALLY TRYING TO GET IT UP!
