It’s Christmas in July. I know—- Some of you don’t want to hear the word “Christmas” this early in the year. But just this week I have already picked up a few stocking stuffers to hide away in my top secret “gift closet”.
It seems like I’ve been surrounded by all things “Christmas” so I might as well go with it.
This past year for Christmas, my family purchased Silver Dollar City season tickets for our family vacation for the year.
We have been taking quick day trips from time to time to get away from the regular routine and spend some time together having fun at Silver Dollar City. Being three hours away, a quick day trip means a very early departure so we definitely satisfy our breakfast needs with a McDonald’s stop. There is always a good deal for breakfast, and most of the time an even better, great deal when you use the McDonald’s app.
If you have ever been to Silver Dollar City, then you know about their Christmas shop.
Christmas in July
And if you are familiar with Silver Dollar City during the Christmas holiday, then you know that you CAN NOT shop in that store during the season because it is SO BUSY! (I can’t. It is too busy for me.) Well, on our last trip to Silver Dollar City, I treated myself to a Christmas in July and walked around for an hour by myself, ALL ALONE, NO ONE else in the store, picking out Christmas goodies for friends and family. I’m really an ornament junkie, and was able to grab a few without any kind of crowd. It WAS GREAT!
Another fun Christmas in July thing I did this month was I picked up two different treasures from an antique store. I found this sweet little Christmas book where “Jack” is the main character. I have been collecting “Jack” books for my Jack’s collection.
While treasure hunting at the antique store I also found this sweet little birthday plate. I’m going to wrap it up and give it to my daughter for her birthday which is during the Christmas season. (Secretly, I hope to keep it and give it to my first granddaughter in 30 years for her first birthday!)
While I shopping at Silver Dollar City and treasure hunting in antique stores I grabbed several stocking stuffers to hide away for Christmas.
If you want to keep your stress level down at Christmas, I highly recommend picking up things throughout the year and also staying organized. One of my best organizational tools is my Christmas notebook and I am constantly writing down gift ideas for family members throughout the year. I try to pay attention to them and when I have a good gift idea, I go ahead and write it in the notebook. If I don’t write it down immediately, I know I’ll forget!
See, there has been a lot of Christmas happening this month for me, so I wanted to continue the theme.
PAY IT FORWARD- McDonald’s Drive-Through
So, why not go ahead and pick up some McDonald’s arch cards to stick in some stockings! My husband fills my stocking with gift cards to some of my favorite places so that I can grab a coffee or a treat while I’m in town with the kids and I LOVE IT! Having McDonald’s arch cards stashed away for stockings is just one thing I can knock off my to-do list later this year and will give me more time to bake cookies, play board games, and drink hot chocolate with the kids!
But, why not take it a step further and be generous while in the drive through picking up my arch cards and PAY IT FORWARD at McDonald’s with a Christmas in July gift!
I’ll admit, this was my first time to ever “Pay It Forward” in a drive through and pay for someones ticket that was behind me in line. It was fun talking with my cashier as we were working out the transaction, but even more fun to explain to my kids what we were doing.
If you have not ever done this, I suggest doing it! I feel like I’m the recipient of so many people’s generosity and thoughtfulness and I want to give that to others as well.
One of the catchphrases I’ve found myself saying to my kids lately is—-” If you have the opportunity to be generous—- always choose to be generous.”
This probably stems from teaching moments as a parent when I’m referring squabbles and teaching them to share with each other.
But there is always a way to show genorosity to someone. It doesn’t always have to be money that you are giving, you can be generous with your time, kindness and complimentary words.
Be generous. It makes the world a better place.
Oh and while I was running through the drive through at McDonald’s, I had to go ahead and try the new Rolo McFlurry for myself.
As I was ordering I remembered that I finally downloaded the McDonald’s app on my phone and when I checked it was a buy 1 get 1 free special for the McFlurry’s. So I grabbed the free one to take to the baseball fields. That’s where we’ve been spending a lot of our time lately.
I was able to give one to a new mom that I just met through our sons baseball team. And when I say just met, I mean I introduced myself and then gave her the McFlurry. She may have thought I was a little crazy. But, I had to keep up the Christmas in July theme for the day, especially since it was buy 1 get 1 free and I wanted to use the app. So YAY for new friends, ice-cream, summer, and baseball!
Do you buy Christmas gifts through the year?
Have you ever “Paid it Forward” in a drive-through line?
