Here it goes for the random life update.
I’ve had “write a blog post” on my list Every. Single. Day. since my last post about Valentine’s Day. I even have my list of posts ready to write. I have so much that I want to share with you guys!
But, it hasn’t worked out for me to get anything up on the blog, so I’m just going to share a few quick and random things that make life good right now and one thing that we are loving in our homeschool routine.
Anne Of Green Gables
Riley and I are reading Anne of Green Gables together as a read-aloud. I told her that we would watch the movie in my room as soon as we finished the book. We are loving our time together reading the antics of Anne and looking forward to our girls night movie night!
Alarm at 10:35
We started out our homeschool year by doing our read aloud time early in the morning before we did anything else with our school work. This did not really work well for my personality. I love reading to my kids, but I like to start my day with being productive by checking several things of my list. I found myself rushing through our reading time, so I could get to other things. So, I instituted a new routine/rhythm to our homeschool life that is working GREAT! I set an alarm for 10:35 every morning and when that alarm goes off everyone can stop whatever homework or chore they are doing and head to the living room for some read aloud time. This is working for EVERYONE. The kids think it’s fun to be able to take a break from homework, even if they are in the middle of a math problem and I get to be more productive earlier in the morning AND we ALL look forward to the break. It’s a win/win for everyone. They make sure that I have the alarm set every morning. This has been our best change of the year!
Earlier in the year I shared some of my running goals. Things are right on track! I’m still not where I was before Lane or where I want to be, but I am improving my times. Yay! I’m getting up at 4:30 am to meet my running partner at 5 am a few days a week. I get so much more done on the days I run early. It makes the lack of sleep worth it. I have 3 local races picked out, but I haven’t signed up for any yet because I have to wait and see what kid/family activities are going on that day to make sure I can actually make the race. But the good thing is that my running is feeling so much better!
Back in this post, I mentioned that I was vowing not to buy anything new until I got all of my baby weight off. It is HARD because so many stores are having sales right now. So, I still haven’t bought anything but I am down to the single digits of what I need to lose to get back to pre-baby weight. YIPEE! That’s a good thing!
This is continuing on with my weight loss point. To help get the weight off, I have not been eating sweets Monday-Thursday. We started this as a 1 week deal, just to practice some self control after the indulgences of the yummy sweet treats of all the holidays. It turns out that the hubs and I like practicing this! It makes our weekend sweets more enjoyable and we are picking and choosing what we will indulge in. (See this FREE PRINTABLE for some motivation). These energy bites also help to curb my sweet tooth. We make them every week. We do have some exceptions on this rule of not eating sweets though. If someone invites us over and makes a sweet through the week, we are allowed to eat it. I think it’s rude to turn down something that someone spent their time and energy making JUST for you. People and relationships matter more than not eating a brownie on a Tuesday when someone invites you to their home.
I got our scrapbook in the mail this week from our 2016 year. LOVE LOVE LOVE sitting down with the kids to look back over the year. It is a lot of work, but I think it’s worth it! I have seperate post planned to share my thoughts on why I make the effort to do it and how I make the time.
Goals for a 7 Year Old
My daughter made 7 goals for the year of being 7. I’ll share those with you too! But, a good thing that is happening is that she is on her way to achieving them and I’m getting to help. It’s a bonus that some of them are fun goals too!
I’ve had a DSLR camera for several years, and I pretty much want to curse everytime I try to take a picture with it. I have read online and still could not work it properly and would constantly be frustrated when trying to use it. Recently, I invested a little in learning how to use it and went to a photography clinic. Why did I not do that several years ago??? Now, I have an idea of what all those buttons mean on the camera! Yay!
Check out the blurred background in the lost tooth picture. I did that with my fancy camera and no editing! Just click and upload. WOO HOO! I still have a lot to learn, but I am just thankful that I know what button to push to make it take a picture! haha!
We have something exciting happening to our house right now! A post is on the list to share it with you! Can you guess???
What’s something good going on in your life right now?
